On our overnight trip to the Bay of Islands, we also went to the spot where the Mauri's signed the Treaty of Waitangi. Waitangi is considered the most historic site in all of New Zealand. The treaty that was signed here is what gave birth to what we now know as New Zealand and is revered by Maori (native New Zealanders) as a guarantee of their rights.
