Naylor Family Happenings

Well, the Naylor kids have been busy. Breck traveled to CA this week with her school choir to compete at Knott's Berry Farm. They did well taking second place. She also had cheerleading tryouts and was put back on the Senior team as a flyer. She is looking forward to another great year so she can get ready for high school cheerleading next the following year.

Powell has finished up another soccer season and will be going through tryouts next month. The real excitement has come with the learning of Lacrosse (thanks to Crew getting him turned on to this). As a fifth grader he made the Middle school team on JV. He has loved learning the game and playing it. We found out this weekend that he led the team in assists. He was also named to the MIddle School All City All Star team as a Mid-Fielder (he's not in middle school yet). His two best friends on the team also made it (Powell is their John Stockton and they are Carl Malone). He also was given the MVP for the last game of the season. He received this honor four times during the season. His party and awards night is in two weeks, but we have already been told (don't tell him) that he has been rated as the BIGGEST HITTER on the team. The smallest guy with the biggest hits. He loved taking out the eighth graders!!!!

Crew is entering the High School play-offs this week for Lacrosse. He stepped up and played goalie for his team since no one else wanted to. He ended the season very strong with a goal saving percentage around 86%. Not too bad when balls are coming at you around 80 mph and your defense would rather turn and run than make a play. Parents often ask why the fastest and one of the strongest kids is playing goalie. It is fun to watch him take off down the field with the ball to try to score or make an assist. He has done very well and the coaches are excited for next year already. His team is very young and should do well next year. I think Crew will enjoy having some time off so the bruises all over his body can heal. Soon enough it will be HS soccer try outs again.

You Naylor's are awesome! We love you all and we're proud of each and every one of you. I'm most pleased that each of you guys are also outstanding students and that you're living the gospel. Each of you deserve a separate post!

Breck, we're proud of you and of all of your accomplishments. I didn't know that your choir was competing at Knott's Berry Farm. Congrats for getting 2nd place. You go from the east coast for the national cheerleading competition all the way to the west coast with your choir and win in both places using different talents!

Powell, We knew that you were blowing away the guys that are much older in Lacrosse, no less. But, we didn't know that you were the MVP. Congratulations! Do you like Lacross more than soccer? We would love to see you play, but since we can't for 1 1/2 years, you'll have to give us frequent updates. P.S. Take it easy on the older guys.

Crew, we've seen you play forward, midfield, and defender in soccer and you have always made the difference. I suspect the goalie in Lacrosse is as critical as in soccer and with an 86% save rate you must be incredible. I've been told that you should never understimate the importance of the goalkeeper. I'm eager to hear how your team does in the playoffs.

Wow! Breck will be ready to choreograph and coach the team by high school! Are they called Flyers because they do stunts where they are thrown in the air?

Powell must be awesome to watch with all the other big kids. Your family has the killer instinct. But then, what do you expect considering who the parents are? I really only recently knew your kids were doing Lacross. Is it fairly new to you? He sounds amazing.

I would think goaliie would be the major hot-spot as far as bruising goes if the balls come in at 80 mph. Crew is a wild man! Is this the most natural cross-over sport to soccer? I have never even seen a game. Lots of kids here seem to be starting Lacross. Do you recommend it?

Good Job!

Breck -- is that you in the middle on top? (for those who don't know, you can click on the pictures to expand the size). Does flyer mean what it sounds like? How many flyers do you have on the squad? I need you the define the cheerleading lingo! I'm amazed how much traveling you do (around the country) for cheerleading and choir. That has got to be so much fun! Congratulations on doing so well in both activites!

Powell -- I also need an education on Lacrosse lingo. What does hitting mean? For some reason I thought Lacrosse was not a full contact sport. Does it mean some form of tackling or does hitting have to do with how you hit the ball? Or does it mean how many times you can peg the goalie with the ball...Crew should know about that! Is it even called a ball? I'm clueless about Lacrosse. I can tell that it takes alot of skill that I don't have! That's amazing that you are not only playing with the JV team, but often the MVP of the team -- way to go!

Crew -- is soccer still your number one sport? Are you playing on a school team or a club team for Lacrosse. Are you able to go and score as the goalie? I hope you get to wear a lot of padding as goalie. It sounds painfull!

Thank you for the Naylor update and for the great pictures!

Packer and Holland are very impressed with Powell's head gear and with how high Breck is. They think these are VERY COOL pictures. They are wondering if Crew wears gloves as the goalie or if he uses a lacrosse stick?

The sport is very cool. Hitting is when you run up to the guy with the ball and hit the person like in hockey,by the way you`re hands have to be together on the stick or else it`s a cross check, but that`s another story. The sphere you ply with is a ball.We wear helmets so if we miss the ball it boesn`t hurt and if someone accidentally hits you in the head with their stick. We also have to have a chest protector, elbow pads, a mouuthpiece, cup, and gloves.Crew has a bigger chest protector that covers his whole upper-body but not in the back.He doesn`t have to wear elbow pads but he has to wear gloves and he can wear shinguards or some type of protection for his legs. when we go down to Utah we`ll tell you the smaller things.

I can't believe all the terrific things you Naylors are doing. It is all so positive and good. And add to this that they are all A students and Crew goes every morning to Senimary at 5:45am.

Breck - you are a picture of your Mom at that age and you have many of her super talents - like dancing, cheer leading and singing. Add to that you have your Dad's beautiful coloring and hair plus his singing voice - and you have Beautiful Breck. Be careful flying. It could be dangerous.

Powell - I can't believe that you are such a Lacrosse all-star in your first year plus being 3 or 4 years younger. And we know you are also a soccer star. Wow!

Crew - You continue to be an athletic all-star in every sport you try. Going back to when you were still only 2 years old and you could hit the baseball over the fence and over your house in Colorado. I would pitch the ball and you would smack everytime.

We are so excited and pleased with all you do. Plus your are all-stars at Church too.

Crew and Powell: We just received the May New Era. It has a fun article about Lacrosse. It is a story of girl in Michigan who is a Goalie on her high school team. I learned a lot about lacrosse from the article, especially about being the goalie. You have probably already read it because you probably received your New Era a month ago. But if not, read it. I enjoyed it. I hope we get to see you both playing as soon as we return from New Zealand.
Love, Grandma
